Omavuaye Mudiaga-Erhueh (a.k.a. Mavi) was born and raised in Ughelli, Delta State. She is proudly Urhobo and is the fourth of five children, raised in a Catholic home. She comes from a family of professionals- her mother is a lawyer and her father is a medical doctor. All her sisters are also professionals- mechanical engineer + pilot; lawyer; medical doctor; and an accountant-to-be.
From an early age, she knew she wanted to be a lawyer when she grew up (after considering/contemplating being an air hostess and/or actress). Having attended boarding school from the age of 10 years and immediately moving to England to pursue her post-secondary education, she quickly learnt to be independent. She is easy-going, friendly and can be argumentative (unsurprising for a lawyer).
She is God-fearing and owes all her success and achievements to the abundant Grace of God, who has seen her through all her endeavours and continues to show His face in everything concerning her.
For her primary education, she attended NNPC Staff School, Warri. She spent the first four years of her secondary studies at Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC) Bwari, Abuja but completed the final two years of her studies at Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin-City, where she graduated as one of the top students.
She attended Aspect College, Bournemouth, where she obtained her University Foundation Certificate in order to commence her Undergraduate Law studies at the University of Buckingham. She was a star student, winning several academic awards and prizes and participated in extra-curricular activities as well as Student Government activities.
She was called to the Nigerian Bar on 14 February 2012, completed her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2012 and obtained her Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the London School of Economics in 2013.
Professional Work Experience
Professionally, she has worked with top-tier law firms both in Nigeria and England, details of which can be found by clicking here.
She is a high-achiever. She is the recipient of several academic awards and prizes from her secondary school, her undergraduate university and her postgraduate university. She is also recipient of three scholarship awards- one awarded by Delta State, one awarded by PTDF and the final one, awarded by the London School of Economics.
She also received an Honourable Mention during the 20th Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition, held in Vienna, Austria.
She has a vast array of legal interests such as dispute resolution, international law, property law, law-making, and international human rights. Mavi’s posts have themes from these areas and her train of thought tends to show an overlap in these interests.
She has a passion for academics and legal writing, in particular.
